Aumni Update: Dan Kreer ’68

We recently reached out to our brothers asking for updates on what they have been up to since Denison, and you had a lot to say! Thanks to Dan Kreer ’68 for writing in your update! Here is what he had to say:

Our  Fall 1964 pledge class of 25, 20 of whom are still active, gets together regularly.  Most go to the Denison 5 year reunions, plus we have had 4 “mini” reunions of our class in between Denison reunion years.  This  September we had 12, including some Betas from the class above & below us, on campus for a memorial to our pledgemate Doug Currie, AH 1020, who passed away this summer at 74.  Doug, my roommate in the Beta House our junior year, was a remarkable individual. That year he founded the Denison Rugby Club, which is still going strong, fielding both a women’s team and men’s team.  Doug suffered a terrible auto accident during senior year which required a long and extensive recovery and rehab process.  While confined to a wheelchair & walker for the rest of his life, he became a successful artist, living independently and at peace. When he passed away, we decided to honor him by endowing the “Doug Currie Most Inspirational Player Award” for the Denison Men’s Rugby Club. The award will include a perpetual trophy with all winners’ names to hang in the Athletic Dept., and an individual plaque to be given to each winner. The award was officially announced before the Denison-Kenyon Rugby game in September. Above is a photo of a painting of Doug done by his cousin William A Nathans, a well known artist. Denison and the Beta House spawned many lifelong friendships for our pledge class as I am sure it has for others as well.
