We recently caught up with our very own Tom Witter ’49 and had the chance to ask him about his Beta experience, and where life since Denison has taken him. Here’s what he had to say:
Where has life taken you since you graduated? Give us a brief recap up to this point including career and family highlights.
I have had three careers, first was in the USNR for 3 months and 3 days, and I was the Lt. Junior Grade in Tokyo on Christmas Day in 1945 on the USS Sangamon. I was discharged in July 1946. In my second career I worked as the rep for two companies in Illinois. I then went on to graduate from Stanford with an MBA to become the President of the company. I eventually left them and went back to school at Princeton and graduated as a Theological Seminarian in 1965. I began serving two churches, one was the Founding Families of Community of Jesus in 1970.
I am now living at Community of Jesus assisted living, I turned 95 last August 6th and my wife, Jane, and I celebrated our 72nd wedding anniversary last December 18th. Jane is now 93 and lives in a fine assisted living nursing home as well. I met Jane on a blind date and since then I have had a lifetime of many happy memories thanks to the Lord. At 95 and a half years old, I am in perfect health under the amazing grace of our Lord who is my constant companion.
Being a member has been some of the most amazing and happiest days of my life.
