A little bit of Beta Theta Pi history  

Our fraternity has had a long and noteworthy past. Although many of us finished our new member education many years ago, we thought it was time to share a few more fun facts about the history of Beta Theta Pi.  

  • Beta Theta Pi was the first college fraternity founded west of the Allegheny Mountains, and the first to have a General Convention in 1842.
  • Our fraternity has the following noteworthy members: a Vice President of the United States, a Prime Minister of Canada, about 200 members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, two Speakers of the House, eight U.S. Supreme Court Justices, plus more!
  • There are currently over 150,000 active brothers in over 120 universities.
